The lake is both spring-fed and fed by the outflows of&nbsp;Great East Lake to the north and&nbsp;Wilson Lake&nbsp;to the east. Horn Pond\u2019s outlet is the&nbsp;Salmon Falls River&nbsp;which forms a natural border between&nbsp;Maine&nbsp;and&nbsp;New Hampshire&nbsp;and empties into the&nbsp;Piscataqua River&nbsp;east of&nbsp;Dover, New Hampshire, and ultimately the&nbsp;Gulf of Maine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mtviewshoresassoc.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/pic14.png?w=1200&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" height=\"543\" width=\"1024\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mtviewshoresassoc.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/pic15.png?resize=1024%2C543&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Boating<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Headway speed is the minimum speed necessary to maintain steerage and control of the watercraft while the watercraft is moving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>References:&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.maine.gov\/ifw\/fishing-boating\/fishing\/laws-rules\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Maine Boating Laws<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Maine<\/strong><br>Boater\u2019s Guide to Maine boating Laws &amp; Responsibilities:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You may not operate a watercraft at greater than \u201cheadway speed\u201d while within 200 feet of any shoreline, including islands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Exception:<br>Watercraft may operate at greater than headway sped in the areas stated while actively fishing or while following a direct course to pick up or drop off skiers from shore, docks or floats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>New Hampshire<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Boating Law: 270-D:2To provide full visibility and control and to prevent their wake from being thrown into or causing excessive rocking to other boats, barges, water skiers, aquaplanes or other boats, rafts or floats, all vessels shall maintain headway speed when within 150 feet from:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(1) Rafts, floats, swimmers.<br>(2) Permitted swimming areas.<br>(3) Shore.<br>(4) Docks.<br>(5) Mooring fields.<br>(6) Other vessels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Exception:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Starting skiers from shore, docks or floats, as long as neither the boat nor the skier is endangering the life or safety of any person.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Resources and interesting links<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mtviewshoresassoc.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/pic17.png?w=1200&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/awwatersheds.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><br> <\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/awwatersheds.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/awwatersheds.org<\/a>The<a href=\"https:\/\/awwatersheds.org\"><strong> Acton Wakefield Watersheds Alliance<\/strong> <\/a>(AWWA), a non-profit 501(c)3 charitable organization established in 2005, is dedicated to protecting and restoring the water quality of the lakes, ponds, rivers and streams of Wakefield, New Hampshire and the border region of Acton, Maine. AWWA staff members, board members, and volunteers work within the communities to strengthen the understanding that what happens on land determines the health of the local waters. Healthy water bodies provide essential benefits to our communities as a natural resource, wildlife habitat, recreational opportunity and economic engine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.horn-pond.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">http:\/\/www.horn-pond.com<\/a>The Horn Pond Association works to maintain the health and pristine condition of the lake. All home owners and friends of Horn Pond are encouraged to join the association to support our efforts. LSM trains, certifies and provides technical support to hundreds of volunteers who monitor a wide range of indicators of water quality, assess watershed health and function, and screen lakes for invasive aquatic plants and animals.
